Having been so popular over Christmas, we have decided to add new designs from the Little Black Duck range of cosmetic bags.

At only £22 we think this might tempt you to throw away your old tatty make-up bag and replace it with a sparkly new one. New Designer - RawXclusive

I am delighted to have added a new designer to the site - RawXclusive. Designer Rebecca Winter created the label RawXclusive in 2006, creating a luxurious and stylish brand of interior accessories.

Rebecca sketches every design and then carefully transfers the idea to sumptuous textured fabrics using freehand machine embroidery techniques, vintage lace appliqué and delicate beaded embellishments.

In June 2007, Rebecca exhibited at The Contemporary Craft Fair in Bovey Tracey, Devon where RawXclusive was awarded the Best New Business Award 2007.

At The Bag Boutique we have added some of her fabulous wool lavender bags, which are a great gift idea especially as Mothers Day is fast approaching.

The new range of luxury lavender bags are delicately and individually made with a floral embroidered motif, and sequined detail onto a delicious selection of luxury wool felts. Every bag is filled with 100% natural lavender,giving off a subtle but fragrant lavender scent.

Gosh, I can't believe it has been over 6 weeks since I last posted.... many, many apologies for this!
So what has been happening at The Bag Boutique for the past month, well we have just had some fabulous cotton shopper bags made as our new packaging style. All of our handbags, clutch bags and even make-up bags will now be sent out in our custom made shopper bag...which obviously means you can use it over and over again for shopping, carrying those files to work or as a useful storage bag at home, whatever takes your fancy really!

This week we are going to be adding a new designer to the site, again more fabulous clutches for the summer and floral make-up bags, so watch this space later on this week....!

I can't believe it has been nearly a month since I last posted an article, so sorry for my bad time management, the days just seem to be flying past.!

I am sure you will have seen that we have added some fab new eel skin clutches by Makki they are the softest leather and available in 3 different colours at the moment. I'm sure I can hear you saying err eel skin, but trust me on this one! The skin is a bi-product and it becomes softer, shinier and supple with use. Whilst reading Drapers, the well known British Brand Radley are launching its first major ad campaign for spring 2007. No doubt you will come across it whilst reading the newspaper supplements at the weekend- You Magazine (Daily Mail), Stella (Telegraph) and the Sunday Times Style. The campaign will then follow suit in a range of magazines such as Hello!, Grazia, Elle etc. I am surprised this is their first major ad as I'm sure that everyone knows the Radley bag!

WAGS Boutique and Elbo

I suspect that many of you have caught a glimpse of the series 'WAGS Boutique'. I first heard about the programme back in December when The Bag Boutique were asked to put forward a list of our designers for one of the challenges which was to be aired in February.

Three of the designers got down to the final three, they were Lucy Hayler, Emily Cheetham and Emma Burton . The Bows Boutique chose to stock Emma Burton's Elbo bags, as many of Emma's bags have a signature bow on the front which obviously fitted in with the WAGs boutique name. All of the bags sold out in the shop within the first 3 hours, and now it seems that everyone is after her bags!

So, we can let you into a little secret, we have just taken delivery of a new limited selection of Elbo bags, which are available for immediate delivery. Check out our page on Emma Burton and grab yourself a much sought after Elbo Bag. You must be quick, as stocks are limited.

Tamara Fogle is the tenth designer to join The Bag Boutique

We are delighted that our range of designers and products continues to grow, with Tamara Fogle being the latest addition.

Tamara began interior styling for magazines and restoring antique furniture for her mum, but this soon changed when she recognised the fun and function of designing handbags.

All of her bags are designed and handmade in London, using only the best Italian leather and hand woven fabrics, which create her signature prints. The pleat bags which we currently have at The Bag Boutique are gorgeous, Tamara's spring/summer collection will be arriving at the end of March, so watch out for more gorgeous leather bags.

Emily Cheetham designs for Debenhams

As you may already know, Emily Cheetham whose label 'Cheet' has been one of the designers on The Bag Boutique website for a while now. Emily has taken major strides in her business and design work and this is definitely paying off now that major department stores are wanting her designs.

The London Fashion Forum last year, awarded her the Best Accessories Designer which was sponsored by UK retailer HOBBs . A capsule collection, called ‘Cheet for HOBBs ’ was subsequently commissioned for the Autumn/Winter 2006/7 season.

For the start of 2007, Emily has been invited to design a collection of bags and accessories for men thereby becoming a Designer at Debenhams. Her first collection under the new label, Cad by Cheet, launches in April 2007 in Debenhams stores across the UK and Ireland.

The search for new designers to add to The Bag Boutique is never ending, as such we attended the Top Drawer trade show in London on Monday and found a great range of UK handbag designers all of which we would love to showcase. But as budget dictates..., we shall slowly be adding new designers over the coming months, gorgeous new spring/summer collections for 2007 were on display and as ever it was extremely hard to decide what to order.

With new designers such as Tamara Fogle, Carla Beeby, Mimi, Little Black Duck all in the pipe line, make sure you continue checking back to The Bag Boutique as there will be some great new collections coming our way. 2007 - An Idyllic Retreat

As a post totally unrelated to bags, we wanted to let you know about one of my most favourite places in the world…

For the past 28 years I have been going back to a place called the Isle of Arran in Scotland, which is an island off the West coast. For many years it has been called Scotland in Miniature and if you manage to venture up there you will know why.

For a new place to stay why not try a Bed & Breakfast in Kildonan on the South of the Island, called Mare. The house has stunning views and is ideally located for those of you wanting a walk along the beach, for bird watching or just wanting a rest away from the stresses of everyday life.

I have stayed and would definitely recommend a trip; I may be a little bit biased as there is a family connection but have a look at the website and see for yourself.

Arran is the most beautiful place, really I should be keeping it a secret...but then again we all like to hear about new places to stay.

Christmas Time

Gosh, it has been nearly a month since my last post, time has run away with itself. In the run up to Christmas The Bag Boutique have been busy at lots of events. Christmas at Althorp in Northampton was fantastic and would recommend you make an effort next year to come along. With 2 marquees and stalls in the stables it really is a festive event, and with the chance to look around Althorp house it is a great day out with a chance to start your Christmas shopping.

Women's Accessories - Spring 2007

We have already seem numerous trend forecasts for Women's accessories in Spring 2007, I suspect you are thinking it is such a long way off, but if you are a designer then you have to work and manage many seasons in advance.

So what are the trends.... especially for handbags, well we shall take you through the thoughts from the catwalks.

Future Fashion
It seems that chucky designs are back - with cube shaped handbags from Jonathan Saunders, ultra modern chic and white and silver all take centre stage.

Jewels
Well I love the fact that bags will be glistening in the sunshine, with pearls, jewels and jems all on the calendar for spring 07. Marc Jacobs will certainly be embracing this with bags coated with large fake jems.

Straps
Gorgeous straps will be the theme, shouldn't be too hard to find bags with extra straps, long straps etc, this will compliment the footwear styles where T-bars and buckles will be back with a vengence.

Utility
Perfect for day and weekend bags will be the slouchy canvas bags, rucksacks filled with pockets and duffle style bags, these bags will be much more -ready-to-wear styles.

In addition, we shall see the usual black and white bags and 1980's style incorporating vibrant colours. With so many styles and themes I am sure there will be plenty to choose from.

A new jewellery site definitely worth checking out is Chez Bec. Rebecca launched her jewellery boutique after quitting from the world of law in search of a happier lifesyle.

Well its that time of year again, when we have to begin thinking about Christmas pressies. The hours of late night shopping, saturday mayhem and spending far too much! So I suggest starting early and even stock piling for next year.

What a fantastic gift idea for new mums, anniversaries, weddings and even birthdays. The idea behind the site was born from making a baby capsule - capturing the memories of the day of the birth, so within a capsule you would find a tabloid/broadsheet newspaper, No 1 CD single and a personalised card. Private Company Sales

Google or Froogle?

I have just started to learn about Froogle and wondered how many of you are using this service to search for goods/products on the internet.? I think it is a great way of finding new products and shopping online and as such have been entering the Bag Boutique's bags into the froogle world! For retailers it is a great way of having your products listed, as it is free and doesn't take very long to upload all of the information.
I have read about certain drawbacks, more popular retailers are listed first, those with higher google rankings etc, but as a new start-up business I think it is important to research and try out all avenues.
Let me know your comments about Froogle as I would be interested to know who uses it.

Tabitha to Open First UK store

The Tabitha brand, which I am sure you all know, yes you've guessed it - bags and accessories will be opening its first UK store on the King's Road in London.

The 550sq ft shop will showcase shoes and accessories on the ground floor, with an office being taken in the basement. The price point for Tabitha bags are between high street and designer so next time you are mooching around London, take a trip to the King's Road to check out their bags.

The Growth of Internet Spending

Shop, shop, shop...

I know I have posted lots of comments before about the growth of online shopping, but it seems to be in the news more than ever.
ASOS.com have reported a massive surge in sales by 120% in the 3 months to 30th September, this has also been true for N Brown's online sales which rose 57% for the first 6 months of the year.

Last year, our internet shopping spree reached a massive £21.4 billion which was a rise of 30% compared with the previous year. We are becoming increasingly confident in using the web as a source of buying which is down to the growth of home broadband and increased security.

I must admit I have definitely contributed with Boden, ASOS and Joules all becoming my favourites!! Keep up the online shopping, it has to be easier than trawling the shops on a busy Saturday afternoon!

Event write-up and Calendar Girls!!

The Bag Boutique and WI!

The Bag Boutique attended a WI event in Kegworth, Leicestershire on Friday 13th October and it was a shame that we didn't get to hear the inspirational speaker Tricia Stewart, one of the original calendar girls. Below is a little insight into Tricia Stewart and Calendar Girls if you didn't already know.

Tricia Stewart joined the WI in 1985, and had suggested an alternative WI calendar featuring the crafts of the WI but the girls would be nude. This became a reality in April 1999 when the Alternative WI Calendar was launched in memory of a close friend and in order to raise money for Leukaemia Research.

In 1999 the calendar sold 88,000 copies in the UK alone, a further 240,000 copies were sold in America; this success changed the image of WI!

In 2003 the film 'Calendar Girls' based on the story of the Alternative WI Calendar was premiered at the Odeon in Leicester Square. Helen Mirren played the role of Tricia Stewart and a second calendar was launched featuring 6 actresses from the film and 6 of the original girls.

Tricia Stewart set out to raise £5,000 but a phenomenal figure of close to a million pounds has been raised to date.

If only I had the chance to listen to Tricia on Friday as I think she would have been inspirational, as many people have said, I guess I will have to watch Calendar Girls on DVD instead!

My Weekly Fix

Just thought I would post this article which was written for Chic Shops.

My weekly fix!

Having enjoyed such a long and warm summer (let's hope there is still more to come) with plenty of Weddings, Christenings, Garden Parties and the good old fashioned family/friend Barbeques, I am sure you will agree it may be that time to begin shaping up before the inevitable Christmas excesses which usually start with a string of parties in late November!

So Thursday nights for me, from now on are all about stretching, meditating and breathing techniques in the local village hall for my weekly fix of yoga and pilates. Some of the exercises I have to say are actually quite strenuous but with a bit of will power to continue my weekly exercise routine I am sure I will begin to see a difference if not feel better in the weeks to come.

It would seem that us yoga types might not be the trendiest, with an array of tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts, old camping mats and beach towels, so I think the time has come to bring a bit of fashion to the village hall! Thank goodness, whilst sourcing an array of bags and accessories for The Bag Boutique I came across a designer who makes beautiful handmade, silk and corduroy bags to house yoga or pilates mats. The bags can be carried on your shoulder but also vertically on your back.

Handbag Designer Profile Eight - Elbo

This is the last profile which we shall be writing, until we have added further designers to our online boutique.

Elbo was set up in 2003 by accessories and costume designer Emma Burton. Emma graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 2001 with an MA in Constructed Textiles. To date Emma has worked for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Cath Kidston, Michiko Koshino and Deborah Milner. All 'Elbo' handbags and yoga bags are designed and made in the UK.

Recently I have come across the website Everything Chic which is a great site for fashion tips, website reviews and shopping directory listings. Some of the articles give great ways to spruce up your look for next to nothing, read their article below on imaginative accessorising.

It's not easy to keep up with the cost of fashion. Designer clothes, matching handbags, the shoes needed to go with every outfit. And don't forget the earrings, bracelets, necklaces, sunglasses, hair clips, handbag charms, toe rings.... It all adds up. But you could save yourself some money by being a bit creative.

Bold prints of flowers and sparkly designs are headlining our clothes shops, so why not go a step further and attach a beautiful flower corsage. Or take out your favourite old skirt and give it a new lease on life. Swirling hemline designs simply stitched in place give a fantastic bold statement. An everyday handbag can be glammed up for the summer with a daisy chain of linked flowers round the top, or a big sun flower pinned on the front. You could even go as far as attaching smaller sun flowers to your flip-flops and sandals to brighten them up for an afternoon's BBQ.

Silk flowers are a fantastic way to give your outfit the girly edge without having to spend a fortune. Put a big pink silk rose on a hairband and use it as a bracelet. Lucy is one of the UK's up and coming handbag and accessory designers; all of her bags are designed and made using the finest materials without compromising on durability or practicality.

The bowling bags made from Harris Tweed (shown) are gorgeous and they have been featured recently as a must have handbag in the Daily Mail. They cost £89.00 but are well worth the investment.

For the past two weeks I have been enjoying a break in the South of France and on the Isle of Arran in Scotland in preparation for the pre-Christmas run up and shopping events, which are planned for The Bag Boutique in the coming months.

Whilst mooching around St Tropez market in the French Riviera, the stalls had a huge variety of bags, which I couldn't help but glance at, it wasn't a buying trip but I am always on the look out for unusual or colourful bags to booster my own collection!

Having been to St Tropez on numerous occasions, I felt I had to tell you about a gorgeous boutique, which sells a range of jewellery, home wares and handbags.
The handbags are fantastic, you choose the bag itself either paper, fabric or leather and then you choose your interchangeable leather straps, which can be bought in almost any colour– a great way to create an individual bag. Next time you visit St Tropez go to Edouard Ramboud on the Place de la Garonne just near the harbour and treat yourself.

August Retail Sales

Total sales in the UK retail market rose 5.5% for the month of August, like for like sales rose by 2.5% against the same month last year. It was reported that the trend for like for like sales fell from 4.1% in July to 2.7% over a three-month period.

It was reported in Drapers today that online sales for July increased by 35.4% thanks to the summer heat wave. Spending online reached £2.33 billion for July compared with £2.2 billion in June.

Spending in high street stores fell by 2.2% for the same month as the heat discouraged shoppers.

Puppy Purse - the new carrying device

It seems that our pets are now becoming big business in the bag world. Having read about the latest craze in America, you will be able to carry your puppy or small dog in a stylish carrying device, which can either be carried by handles or by a strap placed over your shoulder.

Two American Lawyers who saw a niche in the market have designed the bags, the prices range from £40 - £60 and will be available to purchase on the Internet and through sophisticated pet shops.

I have no doubt that we shall soon be seeing these 'PuppyPurse's' in the UK, but surely as we are becoming an oversized nation this doesn't bode well for our puppies and small dogs if this carrying craze develops.

Week fives sees designer name Alice Caroline under the spotlight.

Sisters Alice and Helen Sturdy created 'Alice Caroline'; all of their handbags and accessories are designed by themselves and made in England using high quality materials and fabrics.

The Japanese and retro style fabrics which are used provide a unique range of handbags and purses for everyone to enjoy.

It seems that we are not the only ones who love their designs - the fashion editors and journalists all think that their cord clutch bag is a must have, it is being featured in the Daily Star magazine this Sunday (3rd September) as one of the best 5 clutch bags to go and buy. Handbag Designer Profile Four - Jan Milne

We are now into our fourth week of giving you some extra information about the UK designers we have onboard at The Bag boutique.

This week we focus on Scottish designer Jan Milne, Jan graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a first class honours degree in Printed Textile Design in 1994.

Jan is recognised by architectural and interior design firms for supplying custom printed textiles for use in both contract and domestic interiors. Her designs reflect her lively personality and love of colour.

Over the last 2 years the company has expanded into the accessories market with a collection of leather and fabric handbags.

The most popular bag available has been the Luna and Chica bags in antique leather brown; these are designed with accessory clad females in mind who need extra pockets to house mobiles, keys, ipods and lip-glosses.

Our favourite is the Chica, which is definitely a bag that won't go out of fashion.

Handbag Designer Profile Three - Emily Cheetham

As it is now the third week for designer profiles, we are going to give you a little insight into the background of Emily Cheetham.

The London based handbag and accessory label 'Cheet' was founded by Emily Cheetham in late 2002. Cheet bags have been discovered by celebrities and loyal customers such as Jenni Falconer (GMTV), Jayne Middlemiss (Celebrity Love Island Winner 2005 and Presenter), Kirsty Gallagher and many more.

Emily has also won the 'Best Accessories Award' at Profile 7 tradeshow sponsored by Hobbs. An exclusive collection of her handbags and accessories will be available in flagship stores for Autumn/Winter 06/07.

At present we have a selection of her make-up bags and sparkly purses, which we think, are great gift ideas, especially in the run up to Christmas.

Having enjoyed such a long and warm summer (let's hope there is more to come) with plenty of bbq's and beers, its time to shape up before the inevitable Christmas excesses!

So Thursday nights from now on are all about stretching, meditating and breathing techniques in the local village hall for my weekly fix of yoga and pilates.

Joanne is the designer behind the Makki handbag collection. The bags are made with decadent silks and ribbons using a palette of seductive blacks and pinks.

Online shopping continues to grow

Statistics show that we are continuing to spend online, which is great news for all e-commerce businesses. It is reported that in the first 6 months of 2006, British shoppers spent a massive £13.5 billion online, which is a 40% increase on the same period in 2005.

June was the best month for online sales with more than £2.2 billion spent by consumers; this was up by 37% on June 05.

With more products than ever available on the Internet, and with increased consumer confidence in buying over the web, we will no doubt continue to see a growth in online sales over the months to come and with the run up to Christmas. It is therefore a must for all Internet businesses to make sure that site security is a high priority as it is for our customers.

Throughout the course of the year The Bag boutique attends a number of high profile fairs and events, this weekend was the turn of the Porsche Owners Rally.

The beautiful setting of Elvaston Castle, Derbyshire was awash with Porsche enthusiasts and their beloved cars. It soon became apparent that whilst we ladies enjoy the buzz of buying and showing off our new bags there was no shortage of passion when it came to the cars.

As we look ahead to Spring 07, the trends for handbags from leading designers can be summarised as follows:

Colour
This will include a vibrant mix of colours from blue, orange, lemon and lime to neutrals of white to faded tones.

Detail
Mixed with vibrant colours will be feminine, floral detail with a combination of trims, bows and tassels.

Size
The slouchy, oversized bags that we have grown to love will still be around with miniature clutches as a must for the spring.

Themes
Nautical, St Tropez glamour, patchwork and festival design are the emerging themes for Spring 07.

Hot trends for summer 06

As we move ahead into the summer months, the emphasis is on strong, bright colours for casual wear and this includes your handbag.

Bags this summer will be available in a multitude of colours from cerise, fuchsia to burnt orange. White will be the base colour to mix with pastel shades or worn on its own. 'Black is back' will also continue into the summer with earthy chocolates and browns worn in layers.

A perfect way to embrace the stripes and polka dot trend is to splash out on some new accessories, either a new handbag, belts, shoes or jewellery which can be matched up to your wardrobe favourites, a great way to create a new look. Can you believe that handbags have overtaken perfume as the biggest moneymaker for fashion houses? - In the past 5 years, sales have risen by over 150% and British women seem to be leading the way by spending £350 million on bags in a year!

I guess then, that most people own more than 1 handbag, with a vast amount of choice and bags to suit all budgets, it is now the norm to rotate your collection, a coordinated bag for the office, maybe a sparkly clutch bag for an evening out or even a designer gym bag!

Celebrities seem to influence our decision of designer bags - that is if you can afford them!
